In November, we welcomed Andy Slaughter MP on a visit to one of our supported accommodation services for people with enduring mental health conditions in his constituency of Hammersmith.

In the past year, more than 7,900 adults accessed Hestia’s mental health support services across London and the Southeast.

Nia House is part of a cluster of Housing and Mental Health Support in Hammersmith and Fulham which Hestia has delivered since 2013.

Residents are referred by the Hammersmith & Fulham Housing Team (PATHS) and may be leaving hospital, registered care, be homeless, threatened with homelessness or living in accommodation that is not meeting their identified needs.

During the visit, Mr Slaughter was able to learn more about Hestia’s work in Hammersmith where we provide support to nearly 250 people with mental health and complex needs a year and our work supporting survivors of modern slavery. Senior members of the Hestia team were able to discuss how the staff support people’s recovering using person-centred and flexible approaches, as well as the current challenges facing providers of supported accommodation.

Commenting on the visit, Andy Slaughter MP remarked:

“I enjoyed my visit to Nia House and was impressed by the quality of care and dedication of the staff but it is concerning that the service is under pressure, continually being asked to manage more and more clients with increasingly complex needs against falling resources.”

Gemma Chandler, Director of Complex Needs at Hestia added:

“It was great to welcome Mr Slaughter to visit our services in Hammersmith. At Hestia, we are passionate about providing psychologically informed spaces that contribute to our service users’ recovery and ability to live independently. We look forward to continuing to work with him in future.”
